Romanorum Opus Musivum evokes one of the oldest decorative flooring techniques: pebble terrazzo, created by combining lime with river-smoothed stones. As early as the 5th century BC, in the pronaos of the Temple of Zeus at Olympia, we find examples of this cement-based surface — a Greek method later perfected in Italy. Originally functional and made with patience and natural materials, it gradually became a refined artistic practice, close to mosaic and stone inlay in its expressive detail. Today, Grandinetti reinterprets this ancient tradition through a collection of terrazzo tiles made not with marble chips, but with carefully selected pebbles. The result is a surface with strong material presence, suited to both classical interiors and contemporary minimalist settings.
